Scotty McCreery, Lauren Alaina Say They Won't Stray From Country Roots
'We're country kids, so we're gonna make country albums,' Alaina tells MTV News.

On Wednesday, exactly a week since he was crowned an "American Idol" champion, Scotty McCreery told MTV News all about the plans for his debut album (and his thoughts on the whole "Country Bieber" thing, and it should probably come as no surprise to learn that he's not planning on straying too far from his roots.
"It's gonna be a good ol' country album," McCreery said. "I like to have that old flavor in my music, but with a contemporary feel, so we'll see where that leads me. I think it'll a good little mix."
But, of course, it won't just be McCreery releasing a post-"Idol" album: runner-up Lauren Alaina is already prepping her debut disc. And, if you watched the preternaturally perky belter during her time on the show, well, you can probably guess how her debut will sound.
"We're country kids, so we're gonna make country albums," she said. "I'm definitely going to have a country album, and if it crosses over, that would be great, but I like new, upbeat songs that people can dance to and sing along to, so, yeah, that's where I'm headed, hopefully."
So for those keeping track, that's two country albums coming your way soon. And, in keeping with grand "Idol" tradition, both McCreery and Alaina will begin work on their albums during the American Idols Live! Tour, a task, given their young ages, that would seem to be pretty daunting. But, as it turns out, they've actually gotten used to the grind; in fact, it started way back during their time in the ill-fated "Idol" mansion.
"I write my own music, I really like to write," Alaina said. "Scotty and I were actually writing a song together back when we were living in the mansion."
"We're heading on tour and we're going to be recording our albums when we're out on tour, and it's going to be a busy time," McCreery added. "But we're going to do our best to get the music out to you as soon as possible."

As "American Idol" fans sweat out the final hours before they find out whether Scotty McCreery or Lauren Alaina will be crowned the new people's champ, more details have emerged about who will perform on the season 10 finale on Wednesday night (May 25).
As always, producers have kept a tight lid on what surprises are in store for the two-hour finale — and a spokesperson for "Idol" did not return requests for comment at press time. But according to The Hollywood Reporter, a pair of this year's mentors will be back to celebrate the coronation.
Citing unnamed production sources, the trade magazine reported that in addition to U2's Bono and The Edge performing with castmembers from the troubled Broadway musical "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark," Beyoncé and Lady Gaga will take the stage.
The story claimed that both pop divas, who helped mentor this year's finalists, will team up with all-time "Idol" champ Carrie Underwood to perform a group medley with judge Steven Tyler and title contenders McCreery and Alaina. There is also unconfirmed talk that fellow judge Jennifer Lopez will also take the stage for a command performance.
In addition, bearded season 10 growler Casey Abrams will take the stage with "Kung Fu Panda 2" funnyman Jack Black.

Chris Brown recently took the stage with Justin Bieber during the Biebs' tour stop in Australia, where they performed "Up," and now the two will begin work on a video for Brown's F.A.M.E. track "Next 2 You."
Bieber's manager, Scooter Braun, confirmed the video plans on Twitter. "NP- #Next2You w/ @justinbieber and @chrisbrown - video treatment is crazy ... yeah it's coming!!" he wrote.
With little known about what these two have in store for fans, MTV News spoke to Brown in March about working with the teen star on the track. "Being able to collab with [Bieber] was great," Brown said. "He's a young, energetic cat, so being able to work with him, with the fanbase he has, was incredible. I know a lot of little girls are going to love this record.
"I wouldn't say [he's] my protégé. He's doing his thing at a young age, and I was doing mine at a young age, so being able to see him come up is dope."
The midtempo ballad is about the power of love and making the pledge to spend your life with that special someone. The chorus says, "One day when the sky is fallin'/ I'll be standing right next to you, right next to you/ Nothing will ever come between us/ 'Cause I'll be standing right next to you, right next to you."
While it's a feel-good track, Brown joked that when recording the song, he missed his chance to hit the studio with Bieber. "I actually stood him up on accident," Brown recalled. "He was kind of mad ... I was all the way on the other side of town handling some business, 'girl business,' and I was rushing back, and by that time, he's like, 'Man, I'm leaving, bro. I did it — just check it out.' And I looked at it and listened to it and I was like, 'Man, this is crazy.' ... He's a great kid."

Michael Jackson Estate Rakes In $310 Million To Date

Between album sales, movie profits, licensing arrangements and lucrative deals for Cirque du Soleil shows, the estate of late King of Pop Michael Jackson has raked in more than $300 million since the singer's shocking death in June 2009.
According to TMZ, legal documents released on Thursday reveal that executors of MJ's estate have managed to make a major dent in the more than $400 million in debt that Jackson owed at the time of his death.
The first accounting from the executors shows that they have already spent around $159 million paying back various debts, income taxes and other expenses, which include providing support for the pop star's mother, Katherine Jackson, as well as his three young children.
"Although there remain unresolved creditor claims, pending litigation and additional challenging business, tax and legal issues, and the estate is not yet in a condition to be closed, the executors have made substantial progress in reducing the estate's debt," the documents state, according to a Reuters report. Two of Jackson's longtime confidants, attorney John Branca and music executive John McClain, were named as administrators in a will sign by the pop icon.
In addition to paying to make "substantial improvements" to the Jackson family's Havenhurst estate in Encino, California, the executors also spent an undetermined amount of money on "last illness and funeral and memorial service expenses." Those costs included a $900,000 payment to the Forest Lawn Memorial cemetery where Jackson is buried and $35,000 on expenses described as "costume for memorial."
TMZ reported that not only did the famously cash-strapped Jackson have more than $400 million in debt, but his estate also owed more than $40 million to concert promoter AEG tied to the scuttled This Is It Tour, for which MJ was rehearsing when he died unexpectedly. They've also paid $27.2 million in taxes and $4 million in mortgage payments on Jackson's properties.
Despite the solid sales of the Michael album and millions of units of the singer's back catalog being sold, as well as the box office of the "This Is It" movie and DVD sales, the estate is not nearly out of the woods. TMZ noted that the administrators have received more than 65 creditors' claims, some of which are subject to "extremely high" interest rates, and there are several outstanding lawsuits against the estate in several countries.

Justin Bieber Vintage Video: His First Meeting With Usher
Justin Timberlake also wanted to sign Bieber, 'Never Say Never' star said in 2009.

Just as the world was learning who Justin Bieber was, MTV News caught up with the shaggy-haired singer in September 2009. He was gearing up to release his debut album, My World, and plotting his pop-world domination. In the year and a half since that interview, Bieber has done the nearly impossible, launching himself into the pop mega-sphere.
In the chat, Bieber recalled how he and his manager, Scooter Braun, met and eventually got big names interested in signing the teen.
"My manager found me on YouTube. He flew me out to Atlanta for the first time — I'd never actually been on a plane before. He flew me to Atlanta where i was going to the studio to meet some people," he recalled.
"And Usher happened to roll up in his Range Rover. I ran up to him, and I was like, 'Usher, I love your songs. Want me to sing you one?' The politest possible way he could say no, he did. ... I took the hint. I didn't get to sing for him: He had to run into a studio session."
But later, Usher was beckoning the teen back to the ATL. "He actually watched my videos — after my manager got to talking to him — and was like, 'I should have let this kid sing,' and flew me back to Atlanta where I got to sing for him in a proper setting. A week later, I had a meeting with Justin Timberlake, who also wanted to sign me, so they both kind of wanted me."
As the story goes, Bieber went with Usher, and the two never looked back.
"As far as Usher being my mentor, he's definitely given me words of wisdom. I hear it from everybody, but definitely to hear it from Usher is great, just to stay humble and grounded is very important," he explained.
"There's a lot of people, especially young stars, that have gone down the wrong path, and I definitely plan to stay humble and stay grounded and keep my family first, because that stuff really is important in life."
On Friday, Justin Bieber's 3-D documentary, "Never Say Never," opens. The film takes a look at how the teen star worked to hit it big. MTV News has been chatting with him along the way, from the time he first burst on the scene in 2009 until now, as he embarks on a huge 2011 that will include a tour and more new music.

WEST HOLLYWOOD, California — Hard-core Twilighters don't need a reason to vote for "Eclipse" at the 2011 MTV Movie Awards, but if you're torn, co-star Jackson Rathbone has some great reasons why you should help the third movie in the "Twilight Saga" take home some trophies at the show on Sunday.
"We've got a lot of heavy competition this year — some Oscar winners, some amazing films, some amazing actors," Rathbone said, reaching out to Movie Awards voters this week. "We're just lucky to be in ... contention, but y'all can help us out and go online and vote."
"Eclipse" is up for eight awards at the big show, including nods in categories like Best Movie, Best Female Performance, Best Male Performance, Best Breakout Star, Best Fight and Best Kiss, which has Kristen Stewart nominated for kissing both Taylor Lautner and Robert Pattinson (Le scandal!).
And Jackson had one more push for the flicks. "Go out and vote and help us out. We need your votes," he added.
The "Twilight Saga" has had a quite a streak in recent years, taking home nearly 10 Golden Popcorn statues in all. And there's a good chance the latest film will do well this weekend, when it will be up against a slew of other big flicks like 'Inception" and "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1," and "Eclipse" stars will compete against A-listers like Emma Watson, Zac Efron, Emma Stone and Jesse Eisenberg, to name a few.
"Twilight" director Catherine Hardwicke recently told us she was excited to learn that the David Slade-directed film is nominated for so many Movie Awards. "I think it's great. I love it that people are so passionate about it and that people are really into it and following the characters," she said when we chatted with her about the June 14 DVD release of "Red Riding Hood."
"I think it's a great tribute, obviously, to what [author] Stephenie Meyer created. ... Rob and Kristen and everybody's been able to just keep it going and keep people loving it all this time, and, of course, all the directors, everybody. I think it's awesome. It's great."
Hosted by Jason Sudeikis, the 20th annual MTV Movie Awards air live on Sunday, June 5, at 9 p.m. ET/PT, from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California.
