Do the ladies run this mutha? After being deprived of rap femininity for a few years, it seems that women are once again a hot topic in the hip-hop conversation.
Take Wednesday's "RapFix Live" one-year anniversary show, for instance. Not only is Trina making an appearance, but in two separate pre-show fan polls, Nicki Minaj and Lil' Kim are leading otherwise male-dominated categories. Minaj is currently leading for Best "RapFix Live" Freestyle, and the Queen Bee is the leading vote-getter in the Best "RapFix" Moment poll.
It's especially interesting considering that the two ladies were tangled in one of the biggest rap beefs of the year as well. Maino knows both Kim and Nicki, and when he appeared on Sway's Shade 45 morning radio show, he broke down the talents of both.
"I told her years ago that if I believed in any new female, I really felt like she actually had it because she rapped very feminine, she had a lot of style with her," Maino said of his early interactions with Nicki. "I saw her coming years ago, way before her name was even Nicki Minaj. I saw her actually being able to do it."
When Maino first came into the game with his debut single "Rumors," Lil' Kim was an early supporter, helping him navigate his way through the industry.
"Kim is legendary, man; household name that's gonna last forever," he said. "I just don't think that she maintained the work ethic to maintain what we wanted her to have, and that's to be in the spotlight continuously. Some people are not built for that 10-year run of nonstop working, like a Jay-Z."
The "Hi Hater" rapper said that, with today's fans, the only thing that matters is current hits, and while Kim has a powerful catalog, she needs some new bangers to return her to rap prominence.
"She took time off. When you take time off, you kind of hurt yourself, because in this game, they judge you by today," he said before offering advice to his onetime collaborator: "Get back to making hot music, because at the end of the day, that's all it is."
Catch Lloyd Banks, Maino, Trina and the Outlawz on the "RapFix Live" one-year anniversary show on Wednesday, September 14, at 4 p.m. ET on MTV.com!

Lady Gaga sat down with French fashion pioneer Jean-Paul Gaultier for a special that aired Monday night on the CW. The singer opened up to the fashion designer about her beginnings and what she calls her "self-indulgent" youth.
"I just was partying and being very self-indulgent and trying to find myself. In hindsight, it's so dangerous, and I don't encourage anyone to follow that path," she told the designer. "I remember my dad ... I was actually doing drugs in my parents' house one day and they didn't know I was in the bathroom. I came out, and my father could tell, and I just remember feeling so embarrassed and I quit instantly."
Despite her hard-partying ways, Gaga always maintained her pop star ambitions. She talked about quitting college, performing in small New York clubs and making the decision to take off her clothes during her performances to get everyone's attention.
"I knew that there was something I loved about the shock-art potential of what I could create," she said. "I like to liberate myself with my ability to change."
She later likened that philosophy to her look: "I still love trash glamour; it's so much of my favorite thing about getting dressed. I love the mixture of things that are really elegant with things that are really trashy."
That combination has made her a superstar. She explained, "My cultural contribution and social contribution was really an honor and I'm still so humbled by it. I hope I can continue to use my voice to make an impact on my generation."

A decade has passed since the attacks of September 11, 2001, but the memory of that day and those who were affected by it still lives on in America. Celebrities from Anderson Cooper to Lil Wayne took to Twitter on Sunday morning to share thoughts on the 10th anniversary of 9/11.
New York native Lea Michele was in high school when NYC's Twin Towers were destroyed, and the "Glee" star looked back on how the city has grown in the past 10 years. "NYC is one of the most strong & beautiful places in the world. I feel so blessed & proud today to have been born and raised in this city," she tweeted. "To all the families and people of New York affected by the tragedies of September 11th my thoughts and prayers go out to you."
Travie McCoy, who was born in Geneva, New York, also took to Twitter to offer his condolences to those affected during the September 11 attacks. "Something about flying on this particular day that is mildly eerie. My heart goes out to the families of the victims of 9/11. Very sad day," the Gym Class Heroes frontman said.
CNN host and fellow New Yorker Anderson Cooper tweeted from the memorial event at Ground Zero on Sunday. He called the gathering of the families of those killed during the attack a "beautiful memorial," and offered reminders of all the major events that occurred that day.
Look back at how the aftermath of 9/11 affected young Muslim Americans.
Proud New Jersey native Kevin Smith took to Twitter to recall how he found out that the Twin Towers were hit.
"10 years ago, I was fast asleep in Toluca Lake when my Mom called, yelling 'We're under attack'," the director tweeted. "My heart goes out to all the families and friends of the people in both the planes and the buildings who were murdered 10 years ago today."
"Jersey Shore" castmembers shared their best wishes via Twitter for those who were affected by the tragedy. "Remembering 9.11 my prayers go out to all the families that lost their loved ones and all who serve our country! #Neverforget #fdny #nypd," Snooki Jennifer Aniston

Drake Wishes Justin Bieber Kept 'Trust Issues' Unedited
'That would've been so G, if he would've done all the swearing,' Drake tells MTV News of Bieber's remix.
By Rob Markman
LOS ANGELES — When Justin Bieber dropped his remix of Drake's "Trust Issues" over the weekend, many wondered whether the 17-year-old pop star would keep the lyrics intact and throw out F-bombs and the track's other profanities. The baby-faced singer most certainly did not, trading Drake's "F--- it, I'm on one" line for "You know I'm on one."
"I wish he would've left all the cuss words in it. I feel like that would've been so G, if he would've done all the swearing," Drake told MTV News from Lil Wayne's Tha Carter IV release party on Sunday. "I was excited when I heard he remixed it, because there was like a gang of swearing in that song. I was like, 'Oh, we're about to hear the transformation of Bieber.' "
Despite its sweet and serene melody, the lyrics to Drizzy's "Trust Issues" are quite filthy at times. As the YMCMB soldier sings about contempt for manipulative woman, he belts out, "You know what I'm sippin'/ I teach you how to mix it/ But you're the only one, 'cause I don't trust these bitches."
On his version, Bieber doesn't condone drinking nor does he refer to the song's subjects as bitches. Instead, the Biebs tweaks the line and sings, "You just need to listen/ Teach you how to fix it/ 'Cause you're the only one, because I don't trust these women."
JB, however, did keep Drake's dirty original rap verse on his version of the song.
All in all, Drake was pretty excited about the remake. "He's like a talented kid ... from Canada, so to hear him even remix that song is crazy," he said. "That's incredible."
Would you have liked to hear Bieber leave the profanity in his "Trust Issues," or did he make the right call? Let us know in the comments!
